from advisor Ana Maria Jomolca:

Hi folks,

Hope you are all well. This weekend marks The LabRats 4th Experiment Sessions, where we invite the public to share and celebrate over 16 works-in-progress by the LabRats and a sneak peek at our upcoming main stage productions in March. FREE FOOD, DRINK and more live theater than anyone can absorb in one day. Luckily, we’ve strategically scheduled breaks throughout the day so that you can catch your breath and properly digest. The schedule (approximate time ranges) for these pieces (as of now) is below, along with my role/function. There is a slight chance that the line up may be changing, so may want to check back with us (FACEBOOK–LabRats Experiment Sessions). The whole day has some explosive work, so anytime you drop in is the right time.

Hope to See You There! Ana Maria

Puglia, Italy-

Saturday, January 21st at 8PM on Time/Warner 56/RCN 83/Fios in Manhattan
Also streamed over the Internet at: www.mnn.org channel 2 at 8PM EST

Fridays 8PM in Brooklyn on Time/Warner 34/CableVision 67/RCN82/Verizon42

The Puglia, region is in the heel of the boot of Italy in the south. I was most fascinated with the history of the Trullis, which dates back several centuries. The Trullis are unique architectural structures with conical roof made of limestone slate.

The city of Bari is a seaside town with Baroque buildings and an old medieval wall that embraces the old town. The old town has wandering streets and interesting places to visit and explore.

Lecce is a bustling town with lots of traffic from bikes to motorcars. The famous Amphitheatre and the Holy Cross Church stands in a square.
Ostuni is a few miles inland along the Adriatic Coast of Puglia. The perfectly preserved historical city is situated on a hilltop overlooking the coastal plains. The old town gleams of white in warm Italian sunshine. It’s a great place to explore the maze of alleyways, bars and restaurants.

Hi, Folks! Just a quick note to let you know that we have a really good group shaping up for my Feb. 11 & 12 workshop in NYC, but there are a few spots remaining, and you can still take advantage of the early bird discount.

If you like to sing, but have been putting that into the realm of “some day” . . .
if you already sing and want to stretch out and try new things . . .

if you love singing but are afraid to sing in front of other people . . .
join us in a warm, welcoming environment conducive to allowing music to flow from a place of relaxation and joyfulness. There’ll be some challenges, but there’ll be plenty of laughs and mutual support. If any of this sounds like you, consider taking the leap.

(And if it sounds like someone you know, please pass this info along to them.)

To my complete surprise, the workshop was featured in the news, HERE

More info, including how to register, and feedback from previous participants, is HERE.

Any questions or concerns? Just hit reply and ask!

Love, Andrea

The International Sports Hall of Fame medals finally done. The final design of logo was picked from hundreds of submissions from artists around the world. The medal is probably largest ever presented at 6 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick and weighs over 2.5 pounds. It was hand crafted and carved, is coated in 24 karat gold, antiqued, with 32 inch long, 2 inch wide royal purple ribbon and will be presented in large silk lined embossed presentation case. Ceremonies will be held March, 2012 during the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival weekend.

Note the 10 rings at base of front of medal for Perfect ’10′ score, 5 stars above the earth signifying the 5 major continents of the globe, and on rear of medal, the Roman wreath presented to early Olympians. The name and class of each inductee will be engraved above base of wreath.

from advisor Michael Pollock:

There is no “normal” any more for career paths, so I thought it would be interesting to create a video series called How I Got Here, in which creative professionals talk about the twists and turns it took to get them where they are today – and the opportunities they seized.

Marc Andreessen said recently in the WSJ that “Software is eating the world.” There’s constant flux in the media, advertising, entertainment and design ecosystems we work in. So we are all curious to find out how other people find success – not so we can copy them slavishly, but so we can get ideas and inspiration to advance our own careers. We connect ideas and put things together in our own fresh way. (And let’s face it too, we are nosy: that’s why there’s TMZ!)

In this Sparkings you will meet three terrific creative professionals, who share their stories with me in our first How I Got Here videos. I’ve also included an article about how to approach a meeting with someone who can help you move your own career forwards.

I wish you a wonderful productive creative and successful 2012 and I look forward to hearing your stories of how you got to where you are. Perhaps yours could be the next How I Got Here video.

All the best, Michael Pollock

http://www.facebook.com/PollockSpark

PS. For what it’s worth, Andreesen also said: “every company I work with is absolutely starved for talent. Qualified software engineers, managers, marketers and salespeople in Silicon Valley can rack up dozens of high- paying, high-upside job offers any time they want, while national unemployment and underemployment is sky high.

Carol’s Corner – FALL ECA NEWS

I ask you, “are you thriving?”

To thrive means to grow and prosper. Have you reached your full potential? Are you at the standard of excellence you were expecting? Do you feel fulfilled and happy?

Growth is never ending. We never stop learning and therefore, we must seek out new information, techniques, and ideas that stimulate our creativity and increase our knowledge. We must constantly explore and discover the world around us and try new experiences and opportunities whenever possible.

Knowledge alone is not enough. To really thrive, we must also be spiritually and emotionally fulfilled. How can we be more at peace and increase our happiness and well being? What experiences are out there that can enhance our inner self.

Becoming a part of a community is one way to thrive. We feel more connected and loved when we belong to a group. We thrive when we are able to share ideas, feelings, friendship, and love. Events offer us an enriched platform to be a part of a larger community of like- minded individuals who can share on many levels. We not only gain knowledge that can benefit us in our careers, more importantly, the event itself is an over sized out pouring of sharing, caring, and connection. It is a “festival” that generates it’s own kinetic energy

and lends an ease of accessibility enabling you to maximize your sense of community and increase your knowledge. You are able to join others in being part of something greater.

You are still able to connect with people through blogs, E- News and News magazines, community forums and social media platforms. As you connect to a larger group you will see how you are now more a part of things instead of being isolated and alone. There is strength in unity. In an ever increasing isolated world where it becomes too easy

to disengage, We as fitness professionals offer clients a way to attach, to become part of something greater. Surely, we too deserve the same opportunity!

FIRST MONDAYS JANUARY RECAP

BY CARY WALDMAN

First Mondays held its quarterly networking gathering on January 9th at the Palour Pub on 86th street in Manhattan, bringing in the New Year with a lot of cheer.

Over 100 members, old and new, came together to start 2012 with the same vibrant enthusiasm that all of founder Dan Schneider’s events possess.

The atmosphere was electric as friends talked about their holiday fun and travel, and picked each other’s brains on how to continually make their business enterprises thrive and grow.

By far the highlight of the evening was guest speaker Carol Scott, whose combination of wit, humor and charm kept everyone riveted to their seats

Scott, of Long Beach and a former Rockaway Beach resident, had previously spoke at another one of “I Can Still Do That’s” partners, Women Who Lunch, events.

Carol, C.E.O. of ECA World fitness, focused on her “Seven Secrets of Success”, which are streamlined to unlock one’s potential and to help them learn how to avoid the pitfalls that stand between people and their ultimate dreams.

Carol discussed how individuals can drop and conquer all the barriers that get in the way, thus helping them make more money, create more happiness, and subsequently, opportunity.

“She was fantastic, and hilarious,’’ said Anthony Orgera, an Aflac District Coordinator. “I could relate to many of the things she hit on.”

“Carol is second to none,” Dan said. “She is always entertaining and full of wonderful tips. She will have a new book out soon, and we will promote it on our website and amongst our members.”

Dan introduced a new networking arm of his “I Can Still That” organization, which First Mondays is a part of.

Third Thursdays will be hosting its first networking extravaganza on February 16th at the Marriott Residence Inn in Longview, Long Island, and is tentatively slated to meet once a month.

Its format will be the same as First Mondays and its makeup of members will include many of the same crowd, especially the First Monday members who reside in Long Island.

Dan expects to see everyone at the next First Mondays in April.

As we each celebrate the Holiday Season and get ready to begin the New Year of 2012 it is easy to look back at 2011 and question different decisions that were made. I propose that although it is natural to look back, we should make sure we devote at least double that time looking forward…thinking and planning for 2012. It is our decisions and our choices we currently make that will bring us closer to our Dreams!

from Advisor Lee Gerber:
Happy Holidays !! The classic holiday movie “Christmas Vacation” has a
great scene where Clark Griswold goes berserk when he gets a Jelly-of-the-Month Club membership instead of his normal end-of-the-year bonus. His well-meaning relative Cousin Eddie tells him, “It is the gift that keeps on giving, Clark!”. Well, this Holiday Season you can give the gift that keeps on giving and know that it is certainly better than the Jelly-of-the-Month Club!
Your custom branded Rx Cut discount card can be used in many ways to save money for your family, friends, business associates, fellow Church or Temple members and pretty much everyone with whom you come in contact this holiday season! The following is a list of ideas to get you thinking about fitting your custom Rx discount card, the “gift that keeps on giving”, into your holiday activities:
If you still send old fashioned personal greeting cards, why not include your Rx Cut card(s) in each envelope to give someone significant savings throughout the year.
If your company sends cards to your clients, vendors and other professional associates such as your accountants, legal team, etc., why not include your Rx card along with one of your marketing pieces explaining the use of the card! Be sure to note that you are happy to supply additional cards as needed for their employees and friends and that this is a special gesture to your valued clients and suppliers at this special time of the year.
Many of us will either host or attend numerous holiday functions so consider always having a supply of your Rx Cut cards with you. When cocktail party conversations turn, as they often do, to the outrageous costs of prescription drugs, you will be ready with an answer! You might even get some new business leads for your Rx Cut card or other products and services you have to offer.
These are a few of my ideas, the rest is up to you!
As you develop your own holiday distribution strategy remember that, first and foremost, your initial interest in this discount card was triggered by your ability to give something to someone free of charge that will help them save money on prescription drugs. I
would submit to you that the good we do with our Rx Discount card is in the best spirit of Christmas giving, the giving of Chanukah Gelt and other of our philanthropic activities during this special time of the year. I think that all of our holiday seasons will be more joyful and fulfilling if we approach our business and personal activities in this spirit!
My heartfelt thanks to all of you for your friendship throughout the years!

Here is a description of Friendthem to put into your tip sheet. I don’t know how long you’d like to me. Let me know if this is too long and I’ll edit it.
Friendthem is an on-the-spot, “real time” smartphone application that eliminates the search process for making new Facebook friends and allows for both instant social and/or business connections. Our tag line is: “Life happens when people connect,” because we know whether it’s business or personal, people’s lives are created through connections with each other. The Big Apple Posse: Escape From New Orleans
Action Adventure Story for the Survivalist in Us All
The Big Apple Posse: Escape From New Orleans (the sequel to The Big Apple Posse), is live at Amazon.com. Today (and four more days in the next three months) Amazon.com Prime members can download both Posse books for no charge ( try the Amazon Prime 30 day trial membership).
Amanda thought her troubles were over when she, with the help of her posse, was able to escape a bombed out New York City and help the FBI identify the terrorists who attacked the City. But that was before she was forced to enter Witness Protection, a program which turns out to be no protection at all.
It is now the end of February and Amanda and her brother Peter are living in New Jersey with a former FBI agent, hiding until they can testify in the “terrorist trial of the century” in June. One afternoon, Amanda sees one of the “terrorists” hiding in the trees, watching her play soccer. She grabs Peter and travels into the City to seek help from Benedicte Trudeau, a Harlem lawyer who represents posse member, Thibodeaux Botrain’s Auntie Tina.
Mr. Botrain arranges for Amanda, Peter and Thibodeaux to move to New Orleans to hide with Thibodeaux’s relatives. They arrive in New Orleans and soon find out that Amanda, Peter and Thibodeaux are supposed to live in an apartment on New Orleans’ funky Magazine Street, watched over only by Thibodeaux’s beautiful seventeen-year-old cousin, Solange (an aspiring ballet dancer and singer), and one of Mr. Trudeau’s sons, Michael, a

Happy new year!! We welcome our new advisors
twenty-three-old intern at his brother’s hip-hop label.
The posse has arrived in New Orleans just in time for Mardi Gras and they are quickly immersed in a world of music, dance, parades, voodoo and romance. New Orleans is a cultural stew where no one “stands out,” but are they safe? Can anyone successfully hide in a world of Facebook, Google, Youtube and facial recognition software? And can The Posse escape a gang of terroristic thieves who will do anything to prevent them from testifying?
The Big Apple Posse: Escape From New Orleans’ is the second installment of The Big Apple Posse Trilogy. The third and final book of the trilogy, The Big Apple Posse: Escape from Los Angeles, will be published in August of 2012.
from Advisor Ana Jomolca:
Hello folks,
Happy Thanksgiving to all. After flying solo for most of my
career, I finally landed a role with more than two people
in the cast. It’s a smart little play written by Mac Rogers
(Universal Robots) based on the 2003 scandal starring
Illinois Governor George Ryan, the death penalty
moratorium, the Scott Turow’s who capitalized on it and
the Cubana Leo (of West Wing) running around cleaning up
messes. The 14 person cast is stellar and
It’s a bittersweet occasion: After 12 years of providing a
supportive and affordable venue for hundreds of artists,
Manhattan Theater Source will close their doors at 117
MacDougal Street. Have Mercy is our farewell
performance. Every night will be followed by a post-show
celebration of MTS’s honoring of new voices and artists in
all fields. Given the circumstances and that we are a cast
of 14 and that the theater seats 50, tickets will sell out
rather quickly. Tickets are available online or at the box
office. Just click on the date you wish to attend.
Hope you can make it.
Much love and light,
Well my friends, I’m back again at one of the most wondrous art collections, and great acoustical, listening rooms; The Lehman Loeb Arts Center at Vassar College. Beginning this Thursday, I will be hosting and performing at their ‘Late Night Thursday’ events, and the start of a once-a-month jazz session, where students as well as musicians from the area are invited to come and experience the art, and the art of jazz improv. All musicians are encouraged to bring instruments, or voice, and be ready to create a new path through the improvisational wilderness. This workshop is designed to build confidence
through performing, deliberate listening, constructing short, expressive solos, and experiencing a thought process to enhance technique as well as intuition. In essence, “How To Play Well With Others”. So, come stroll and absorb this current remarkable exhibition, have a drink (coffee or water), eat some light foods, and look, listen and perform as we explore all types of music, within the jazz genre.

Hi, there. It’s November (how’d that happen?) and that means my CD release celebrations are coming up very soon. I hope, hope, hope that if you’re in the tri-state area you’ll join us at one of them. The whole quintet will be playing, which doesn’t happen as often as I’d like, so this is an especially good time to hear us.
Wed. Nov. 16 at Zinc Bar, NYC
Sun. Nov. 20 at Trumpets, Montclair, NJ

I’m happy and relieved (I do not kid!) to say that”Parallel Lives” has been getting some extremely
gratifyingly reviews. If you’d like to see any of that, click here.
Interviews
I’ve been doing some radio interviews; one was a podcast for WGLT in Normal, IL. I think they way
they do their interviews is pretty interesting; you can listen to it on my new website. Look for the music
player at the very bottom of any page, click the “on” button, and there you go (it’s short – about 15 minutes). And feel free to tell me if you’re finding the website easy to read, navigate, etc.; the content is of course mostly music-related, but there are a few other things there as well. I’ll also be heard on a podcast at The Jazz Session, which I believe will be available in about 2 weeks. Two more interviews coming up; if you’re in the area you can tune in on a radio; if not you can stream on your computer; be sure to adjust for your time zone:
Art/Dance Fundraising Party in support of Evelyne’s humanitarian efforts in Laos This is a reminder about the special evening I am hosting at my art studio on Saturday the 19th. I will offer all of my artwork at 50% off because it is so important to me to raise the funds needed for myself and my two teenagers to travel to Laos and help 600 orphans in need. On display you will see my oil paintings, mosaics, pastels, and photography. It will be a festive evening with delicious refreshments and lively music, so bring friends and wear your dancing shoes! One Voice for Laos is a project I started to engage local teenagers in becoming the humanitarians of tomorrow by raising funds for the Deak Kum Pa Orphanage. We are in the middle of one year of fundraising events that will culminate in a trip to Laos with 6 – 10 local teens to give 2 weeks of community service on site.
Here is a link to our blog describing our efforts: http://www.ideachampions.com/OneVoiceForLaos/

An Eight week tour, a Hometown Holiday Bash, a new website, and a new CDFrom the boonies of Pennsylvania to some fancy digs in San Francisco, I’m in the middle of one of the most wonderful tours I’ve ever experienced. I’m playing solo at homes, clubs and art centers. The generosityof folks across the Country has been stunning. There are so many people in America who love music, who are hopeful for the direction of our Country and who want to help. They’ve inspired me over and over. It seems that everybody’s talkin’ about the Occupy Movement. Talkin’ about fracking. Talkin’ about chemtrails. And they’re not just talkin’. They’re working in food pantries. They’ve been lobbying and, in some cases, re-calling their representatives. And, inventing ways to survive and thrive these tough times.

I’ve been posting photos and some brief essays about the trip on Facebook and on the new website
(www.marcblack.com). I hope you’ll get a chance to read some of them. If you’d like to schedule a house concert just about anywhere on this volatile planet of ours, just lemme know. Coming into the Holiday season, I’m brushing up on my ‘Chestnuts Roasting’. You know, although it’s been a tough year, this is the time to enjoy each other and give thanks for all the many blessings we’ve enjoyed. And as soon as I get back, I’ll be tuning up with my Band for our show the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, November 26 at the Bearsville Theater. The evening will feature some special holiday treats…Happy Traum, Warren Bernhard. It’ll be a cobill with my dear friend and wonderful singer, Amy Fradon! We’ve had so many wonderful shows at the Theater including the recent benefit for Hurricane Irene. Check out this jam. We were joined by Garth Hudson, John Sebastian, Happy Traum and Marco Benevento. Nancy Cantandella shot these great videos:
Move Up To the Country

Trouble
While I’m Standing
I’ll write again soon about the new CD. It’s a very informal collection with songs about Pete Seeger, pure water, the troubled mind of America and how love might heal it. I got help from Happy Traum, John Sebastian, Warren, Mike Espostito and Amy Fradon.
Marc
www.marcblack.com
PS. By the way, if you’re an early riser, Amy and I will be on WDST (100.1 FM in Woodstock) with Greg Gattine at 8:30 am on Wednesday, November 23.

from advisor Sharon Rich:
Last week on Grey’s Anatomy, a sanitation worker comes in to the ER with half his right hand smashed into too many pieces to save. Callie, the orthopedic specialist, takes one look and says, “That hand’s gotta come off!” But as the patient is being prepped for surgery, Callie discovers that he is a skilled and inspired woodprint artist and that his art is his joy in life. She considers herself something of an artist, too. She sees clearly that saving his hand is a way of saving his life — and preserving something positive in the world. She changes her planned course of action and decides to rebuild the hand. Watching this, it struck me that I know someone in a similar situation: Daryl is leading a division in a large medical technology products business. The conservative parent company has cut his budgets and staff and is declining his requests for resources needed to grow the business. Daryl’s response has been to do his best to put out his biggest fires and put his focus on polishing his résumé. Do you see the similarity? Daryl thinks the hand can’t be saved. He’s given up. What’s different between the two situations is that Daryl doesn’t have a reason to push through this first assessment. At least, not yet. What if he did? What if Daryl saw that the purpose his organization could serve in the world is bigger than him? Bigger than his fears of failure or rocking the corporate boat or being disappointed or not being up to the task? What if he believed as deeply as it is possible to believe anything that he could make a real difference in the lives of many people by overcoming his fears and going for the change he knows his company needs? What if he got that giving up on the company would equal giving up on himself? Do you think that might get him to let go of the idea that his situation is hopeless? Do you think that could engage him in some creative problem solving and possibly some strategic risk taking with the parent org to get something different and better happening? What we’re talking about here is engagement. Full engagement…you might also call it ownership…inspired by a sense of bigger purpose. When companies have this they perform miracles. This isn’t just in the movies. It happens in business all the time. Only not as often as it doesn’t happen! So where in your work (or life) are you less than fully engaged? What goals have you given up on that were once energizing and exciting, that held true potential for you or your business? What are you ready to amputate that isn’t truly done for? What would happen if you took another look on a deeper level and saw what was really at stake? What if you took full ownership? What would it be like to take full responsibility for the consequences and costs of giving up — and allowed yourself to reconnect with the potential benefits and gains of taking a fresh look and really putting yourself on the
line? What would happen if you fully engaged as if someone’s life depended on it? Maybe someone’s life does. Maybe it’s yours.
Wishing you an inspired week,
