“August brings its own particular set of challenges. People are on vacation.
Businesses are closed on Fridays. Everything slows down, even though
you may need it to speed up!
So what can you do to move forward when everyone seems to be going the opposite direction?
Of course! Use this time to get ready to hit the ground running in
September. So this coming Monday, August 3, 2009, that’s what we’ll be talking about. If you’re looking for work, please join us. If you’re not, please spread the word to those you know who are looking.”

Might you or anyone you know be interested in an “Mutual Mentor” or intern this coming Fall?
The son of one of our advisors recently graduated Pomona College with an honors degree in Mathematical Economics and is looking for some real life experience in NYC. His name is Matt McGlade and will be in NYC next week. Please let me know if you are interested in meeting Matt next week (or in the future) or if you know anyone who might be.
Also, happy upcoming birthdays to Advisors and Mutual Mentors, Jake Lazarowitz (8/5) and Dan Christopher (8/19). Both will be 24 years young.

Dear Advisors and Friends,
There will be no “First Mondays” in August.
Our next event will take place in NYC on September 14th, followed by our First Mondays in Washington, DC on October 5th. A first indeed!
We are looking for more Advisors with good contacts in DC. If you know of any good candidates, please e-mail me and E-Intro.
Have a wonderful week.
Keep swinging,
Dan
Advisor Arthur Matthews’ NYU SCPS Leadership Courses:
Influence and Leadership
10/3 & 10/4 Saturday and
Sunday
The ability to influence and motivate others is critical to effective leadership. In fact, leaders
often rely on the support of colleagues and superiors to help get the job done. Learn how to build alliances, share responsibilities, and
gain trust and commitment from others. The focus is on how to get the cooperation and results you desire from others–when simply telling them what to do is just not working. (X49.9454 / $580 , FALL 2009, Continuing Education: Leadership and Human Capital Management)
Management Techniques for New
Supervisors11/14 & 11/15 Saturday and
Sunday
This two-day seminar provides new supervisors with the tools and techniques to successfully manage others. You will learn the roles, responsibilities, and functions of a supervisor, as well as basic supervision techniques, communication and leadership skills, and how to use action plans.
